Joe is nominated for a Portland music award:
"Best Male artist of 2007"


Music Spectator Magazine published its first issue in June of 2007 with the intent of becoming an encompassing voice in music for the city of Portland, covering all genres and dynamics of the lush music scene here. In a continuing effort to further that concept, we have announced the 2008 Portland Music Awards.

The awards are presented across 22 different categories. They  were voted on by over 250 individual, from radio personalities to music store owners, from musicians to fans. With categories getting anywhere between ten and fifty nominees receiving votes, we took the five highest vote-getters and put them in the final ballot, to go out on January 1st.

Now for the good news.

It is our great pleasure to inform you that Joe Powers has been nominated for ''Best Male Artist Of The Year'. Fellow nominees are Josh Hodges, Ohmega Watts, Renato Caranto and Curtis Salgado.

The event itself will take place on Monday, January 28th at the Roseland Theater, starting at 7pm. Tickets for this event will go on sale after Christmas through TicketsWest for $30.

The show will be broadcast live on the radio, and taped for a later television broadcast. The nominees will be presented in the January issue of Music Spectator Magazine, as well as announced on our website ( www.musicspectator.com ). At the close of the show, we will be handing out the February issue, which will be profiling each of the 22 winners on their own page.

This will be an Oscar / Grammy - style event, interlacing awards presented by local celebrities to the winners, and musical performances by almost 20 of the most talented artists in Portland, spanning a wide variety of genres. Slated to appear are The Dimes, Linda Hornbuckle, Ashleigh Flynn, 3 Leg Torso, Echo Helstrom, Climber, Katie Harmon, Obo Addy, Craig Marquardo, Derby, Debra Arlyn, Key Of Dreams, and supporting music provided by the Rose City Chamber Orchestra.

As we near the event in coming weeks, we will be announcing the remainder of the performers, some of which are extraordinarily prominent. Craig Marquardo, Publisher of Music Spectator Magazine, will be hosting the show along with a celebrity co-host.
