When Joe heard Tango music for the first time he knew that
he had discovered a life long passion. He realized early on that the harmonica with it's vibrating metal reeds was a close relative of the Accordion, Melodica, Concertina, and most importantly the Bandoneón.

These recordings feature Joe in his 2006 visit to Paris accompanied by Argentine master Tango musicians, guitarist Gustavo Gancedo and bassist Mauricio Angarita.

WORLD OF SONGS

What's in a "World of Songs"? An old nostalgic Tango, a sensuous Samba, a down and dirty Blues, an elegant French classic, a intrepid Israeli wedding theme, a wistful 30's Jazz ballad, a raucous Italian boogie, and many more surprises are to found on this eclectic, exciting, and intensely intimate debut release by harmonica master, Joe Powers and guitarist/vocalist, Lewis Childs.

CLASSICAL HARMONICA

"Classical Harmonica? The Chromatic harmonica was born in the 1920's, and since then there have been hundreds of concerti written specifically with new ones still being composed today, the most famous of these composers are Villa Lobos, V. Williams, A. Benjamin, H. Cowell, Arnold and this Gordon Jacob Suite.

Tangos A la Parrilla Para Bailar

The 2nd album from the Argentine tango band Conjunto Berretin, "Tangamente" is a montage of classic Argentine tangos played in the "a la parilla" style — improvised — and always with the tango dancers in mind. This album also contains an original blues, chacarera (Argentine folk), several "cortinas" (meant to clear the dance floors as traditionally done in the dance halls of Buenos Aires), and an original tango vals composed by Allen Regnier and Carrie Bodensteiner. The musicians come from various backgrounds: jazz, blues, classical — with one thing in common: a love for Argentine tango and with the intention of always playing for the dancers. Enjoy!

TANGO FOR LOVERS AND FOOLS

Conjunto Berretin brings the musical backgrounds of tango, jazz, classical, and blues into the Argentine Tango genre. This music is created by dancers, for dancers of Argentine Tango. Each track is played "a la parrilla" (improvised), which gives it a fresh, energetic sound. The musicians of Conjunto Berretin are: Alex Krebs (bandoneon), Joe Powers (harminica and vocals), Erin Furbee (violin), Tom Grant (piano), Allen Regnier (bass), and Risa Rank (vocals). This CD also features the the first time ever recorded tango "Buenos Aires de mi vida," composed by Risa's late father, Fortunio Bonanova.
